Why do they call it the 360? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Because it makes your head spin with all its hidden problems.

Seriously. I'm lucky that I have had no serious problems with my 360 machine. Yeah, there are some things that don't work on it like they should. But, for the most part, all the hardware works just fine.

It's kinda scary to think about, though. Everyone I know has replaced a DVD drive, headset or a hard drive. I can tell you this ? if my hardware ever goes bad, I probably won't repair it, because I may not have the finances to do so.

It seems the XBox 360 was designed to fail, intentionally, so we're forced to continuously put money into it ? kind of the same way as how we're forced to pay for nearly all the content on XBox Live.

I guess if I had a chunk of change to invest in something, I would invest in XBox, because while the recession continues and the economy goes down the tubes, game sales and game system sales are off the charts.

To be honest, the problems I've had with my Xbox are nothing compared to the problems I've had with my PS3. In fact, I've had no problems with my xbox 360, other than the occasional disc read error, which is not frequent enough to warrant frustration. I've had my 360 for two years longer than my PS3, and my PS3 broke last year. I didn't even bother getting it fixed; I just play my 360 now, and I'm loving it.

Sidenote: BendingLamb is trying to red-ring his 360 to get a refund from his warranty in order to buy a 360 Elite for hard-drive space. He's doing this because he is a douchebag and I thought I'd let everyone know.

Let me see, am I on my 3rd or 4th 360? My first 360 went red rings, I fixed it via a video on Youtube and played it for a couple more months before it just stopped. Second one went red rings also, so I just ran out and bought another one. Third one had the disk drive go bad in it (not just a disk read error). Fortunately the drive in the second unit was a match and I swapped them out and played on. A couple months later, that drive went out. Got a new drive from Amazon.com, play on. A couple more months and that one went red rings too. Went to Game Stop and got a referb. It has been about 6 months now, we will see...

Personally i think that Microsoft has a better chance of taking a sh** in a box and putting it on the market than selling their original xbox 360's on the market today. after they did some of the refinements to the system (you know, the ones that should have been done in the first place if they weren't profiteering douches) it is an overall better system. I am on my second system right now and really wanting to get rid of it for one of the newer ones because of the programming and hardware bugs in my model. The current models are so much more efficient on overall cost to what your getting than the originals and i have been kicking myself in the butt ever since i bought mine just wondering if i should have waited a couple more months to get the newer model.

I am currently on my 4th Xbox 360 and its about time for it to fail and die on me again. The only reason I say that is because this system has lasted me about a year now and thats about the lifetime I give the consoles I run. First system I had red ringed, got that replaced because it was under warranty. Then Gates extended the RRoD warranty by a lot after I got my second system. Played the second system for about a year and a half and that on got an RRoD. Turned that one in for free and they gave me a new system again, which 6 months later had a CD drive failure. Which leads to my current perfectly fine 360. The only issue I have with this one is that I can't stream music over my network to my 360 because it disconnects me from xbox live. But all of that could just be my crap router.

And about Microsoft, they would have done better if they would have tested it properly in the first place, like give it a 6-12 month alpha/beta test in 6-10 hour gaming sessions. Even though games didn't exist for the system yet, they could have left it on running the test diagnostic programs for 7-10 hours straight everyday for 6-12 months. To see if there is going to be any product failure. A product test like that would have shown the RRoD problem and Microsoft could have eradicated the issue before it came about.

I think it is safe to say we all have had some type of problem with our consoles. Although I still hear an occasional "my system has been just fine". I agree a longer more rigorous test period would have been grand. The problem is, we all bought what they gave us problems and all. I hate to say it but if my fourth system takes a dump, I'll probably go out and get another that day. They know it and thus, cheap still works. We can only hope that some of the complaints make for a better system in the future.

Yeah I totally agree with everything you just said. The good news is I do believe they are not making the same mistakes with the Project Natal system upgrade. They have had that thing in the test phase for a long time now and aren't going to quit till August which is when my friends contract terminates. Whether he will get a new one or not for the same system still remains to be seen, but the test would have been going on for at least 6-8 months at that point. I told him to put it through its paces for me! haha!

Just to update, when I first replied to this thread I couldn't remember if I was on my 3rd or 4th 360. We determined here at the house it was indeed my 4th. Well, it will no longer read disks. Number 5 I guess will be coming when get a few extra bucks....
