Running Windows on a Mac? 2 Years, 3 Months ago
|

Okay, so I'm thinking about buying a new iMac in the next few months, but I want to be able to play PC games on my Mac. Anyone know what program I need to buy to do that? I really want to play the whole Total War series ? specifically Medieval Total War.
Thanks.

When I first moved over to a Mac, I had a few programs that I still liked for Windows. My brother-In-Law turned me onto Virtual PC for Mac. It basically lets you run an operating system inside another OS. Worked very well for me. Google it and you should find some current versions out there. Keep in mind there is a Windows version so look for the one made for Mac. Heck there maybe others I am not aware of.

I use a mac currently, although I play games on a PC (when I'm on break from college, otherwise I just use the 360). I will say I plan on using Macs forever and will never use strictly PCs. I have never tried to use virtual PC or any other Windows on Mac programs, but I've heard mixed reviews. Some people I've talked to have said it runs slow, but I imagine it's because of the specific machine they ran it on (ie. low memory). The reason I don't use a windows on mac program currently, is because it's out of my price range. Not to mention, games on the computer seem to be more addicting!

Can't speak for other programs, but Virtual PC does slow down your machine. Of course the extent it does this depends on your memory. My Laptop slows way down(512MB ram), but my quad core barely flintches(6GB ram). Virtual PC basically runs two OS on your machine. The Mac OS in the background and Windows OS. The idea is pretty cool. Your Mac simply looks like a windows machine when Virtual PC is running and the latest version of Windows gets installed.
After being on Mac machines for so long now, I do not find the need to use Windows anymore. Pretty much anything I used on Windows there is a Mac version. Yeah, they cost a bit more, but I expect to pay more for any better product I buy. (currently running 5 Mac's networked in my house).
