Halo Wars
Halo Wars is the series strategy based game. In this you can control three leaders from both covenant and human. Each has its own special units perks and abilities. However As you play the game you quickly find out that the game has many flaws to it. This article will discuss some of these problems.
1. Warthogs and Ghosts - When you play as the Humans your base comes with one free hog. The same is said for the Covenants Ghost. The ghost comes equiped ready for battle at the start of the match. The humans hog however has no gun. All it can do is ram. This ability is harmful to your unit as when you use it it takes away from the hogs health. Unles your playing with anders the cost to purchase its gun is 250. That is really a unfair deal. At the beginning of the match you are very vulnerable and wide open to rushes. You haft to waste valuable resources just to make your hogs battle ready. While the covenant ghost can harass from the get go. When covenant players rush with their leaders you are completely unable to defend yourself because your hogs will die before they even take down the covenant leaders shields. Which leads to a decimation of your forces and defeat. Why bother to build a unit if its not equipped for battle, or even why waste the resources just to equip it? At the beginning of the match you need every available resource you can get so having to waste them on a gun for a warthog is a stupid idea.
2. Covenant Leaders - Covenant leaders are on the best units you can acquire early in the game. They don't take much to make and upgrade and they are freaken strong. When playen as a human against a covenant. The chances of your game lasting longer than a few minutes against a covenant oppenant is very slim. It is an unfair advantage that has angered me and a friend on more than one occasion. You sometimes haft to wait several minutes to get in a match and then only to have it end before you've even had a chance to build any kind of defense force. A covenant leader should be regulated in my mind to the base defense role because of their unfair power advantage.
3. Crappy base defenses - Every base you construct has sockets in each corner for turret construction. Each can be speicalized to attack air vehichle and infantry units. Turrets have only two upgrades to increase their power. Even with these upgrades turrets are very vulnerable and easy to destroy. Up against a leader or full force attack a turret is completely useless as their power and stamina are very inadequate. Turrets mainly are only effective when backed up by troops but they provide only minimal help. I believe the best way to remedy the turrets inadequacies is to have one more power upgrade for them. So that they can have a better chance of defending your base till your forces can be sent to assist. Ive had an idea i hope would be considered and it is that you can have the ability to construct and base at least 2 turrets at any place of your choosing. This would be a very big help to your bases of course for the fact that they have more firepower to bring to bear. Also a good idea would be to have the ability to place the extra turrets near enemy bases to assist in an attack or to harass them. All the makers would haft to do is add this feature in the bases menu and add the extra upgrade to the field armories. Not a very hard thing to do. Your bases are vital to your war effort and they badly deserve better protection.
4. Spartans in Very limited numbers - The spartan units are the best infantry unit you can get. But they can only be built in very small numbers. Only three can be built and in that small number their influence in battle isn't what it could be. I understand that in the books and game they are in limited numbers but in Halo wars If you want more of them then you should be able to get them. Id be fine with being able to build up to nine spartans at the very least. It would be great if you could build an entire force of them. If not spartan two's then spartan three's. Spartan threes are the mass produced version of the spartans. they take less time to augment and train so they can be produced in much larger quantities. Either way i believe their should be more spartans on the ground period. They are excellent for backing up any force you can create but when they operate independantely for any reason they don't stand much of a chance against a sizable force.
These for me are the stop reasons why halo wars has turned out to be a big let down. It couldve been great but all the crap it has in it has driven away most players. The only to save the game you be to make a second game that would have all the problems of the first remedied.
