Battlefield Bad Company? Indeed.
I wanted to like Battlefield Bad Company 2. I watched the videos and liked what I saw, and my friends were really excited about its release, and a couple of them pre-ordered their copies. So, I wanted to enjoy playing the game with my friends.
But, I've been fairly disappointed with the game thus far for a number of reasons, which really sucks, because it's games like these that tear gaming communities apart. A few like them, most don't, and the result is we lose touch with each other, we don't play together as often, and we don't talk as often as we once did.
That's not to say we should all love the same games ? just that when a game like BFBC2 comes out and claims to be an epic release, it had better deliver. But, in this game's case, it didn't.
Here is a list of reasons I'm frustrated with BFBC2:
1. Squads are too small. We can only have 4 people in a squad ? even if we're playing with a large XBL party. 2. Game setup interface is way too complicated. After two days, I still don't know how to set up a game or make a squad. 3. Spawning: I must have died 20 times last night as soon as I spawned in. (Extremely Frustrating) 4. Sniper accuracy: I can get killed by an AK from 100 yards away, but I can't snipe an enemy from 20 yards away?
I will add to this list in a little while. Unfortunately, I need to go right now. But, the bottom line is: How hard can it be for a game manufacturer to take a game like MW2, correct all the negative issues with it and come out with a game that everyone loves? It doesn't seem like it would be that hard with all the technology they have.
More later.

Change Of Heart
Okay, so I have learned to love BC2. Now, I look forward to playing every day, and I have lost all interest in MW2. The difference is in the gameplay itself and in the gaming environment.
In MW2: - You always know where the campers are going to be, and there's nothing you can do about it. - You can unload an entire clip into someone, and they won't even flinch before turning around and killing you. - What you see on your screen isn't always what your enemy sees on his screen - Your sniper rifle will bob and shake even though it's on a bipod and you're in prone position - You will always spawn in where most of your teammates are — regardless of what's happening there - Air support rewards can be completely unfair - Nukes are totally gay - No new maps since its release - The existing maps are so small you can snipe across the map with a silenced SMG. - Without "Marathon," your character can't run more than 10 feet before being out of breath. - The only "good" shotguns are a pair of 120-year-old shotties that would never really be used - Machine guns have heartbeat sensors, which are totally unrealistic
In BC2: - If you can't get to a camper, you can always mortar him or drive a tank over him - You will down an enemy if you get 3-4 solid hits on him - What you see seems to be exactly what your enemy sees - There's no scope shake when using sniper rifles - You can spawn in a random location or spawn on a squad member - Your score is based on your personal skill — not on how many choppers you can call in - No Nukes! - New Maps and upgrades announced this month! - The maps are expansive and allow for all types of gameplay — from camping and sniping to stalking and hunting - Your character can run... ...always. - The shotguns are based on real shotties, and they really work. - No heartbeat sensors — only motion sensors.
In fact, the only complaint I have about BC2 is that the damage you do from a distance is the same as the damage you do up close. For example, if you shoot a guy with 2 shots from your 1911 pistol at 50 yards away, you will do the same damage as you would if you land 2 solid shots with your 1911 at point blank range. This is also true in MW2, and it's a bug I'd really like to see fixed in combat games, because as most of us know, if you land 2 rounds from a .45 pistol at close range, your target is going to be out of the battle — no questions asked.
All this considered, BC2 is just a better-made game. The squad restrictions and network interface still kinda suck, but the gameplay is a lot more fun, a lot more rewarding and a lot more realistic — making BC2 by far a better game.
I will repost this response in a new MW2 thread to get more feedback. If you disagree with anything, I welcome your comments.
Thanks, FY
